Caprice

Music At St Giles

Lucy Melvin will be performing a concert of music for unaccompanied violin on Sunday 15th May, at 5.00pm as part of the Music At St Giles 2022 concert programme. Tickets available here.

This programme has been titled Caprice, because as well as two classics of the solo violin repertoire, there is an inclusion of a slightly newer piece of music, titled Caprice, composed by Wendy Hiscocks.

This whole programme is full of joy, and is a perfect combination for a Springtime afternoon.

Bach’s E Major Partita, with it’s bright, dance movements conjure up colours of yellow and red. Prokofiev’s Sonata for Solo Violin is a sparkling Jewel-like piece of music. Both are united in very lyrical lines of writing for solo violin.

When looking for something to work with these two pieces, or contrast with, Lucy discovered Wendy Hiscock’s Caprice. This piece with its soaring nature is the perfect addition to these other two pieces. It is delicate, and optimistic, and seemed like the perfect choice. Celebrating this beautiful piece by also giving it the title of the programme.

More information about this piece can be found on Wendy Hiscock’s own website .

All proceeds from this concert will go towards the Chamber Players scholarship fund
