Introduction And Allegro
At the start of 2019 the quartet commissioned Thomas Hewitt Jones to write a celebration piece of music to mark the 10th anniversary of the Chamber Players music courses. The final movement of which was performed at the end of the 2019 course. The full piece was premiered in London on 1st February 2020.
A subsequent performance was given in Warwickshire the following weekend. The reception to this piece was so warmly welcomed by our audiences, and it was such a pleasure to work with Thomas that we have since commissioned 2 further pieces from him.
The next piece: An introduction and Allegro for string quartet and oboe, will have a similarly lively feel in style. We want this to be a happy welcome back to performing following the hiatus of 2020.
The oboist in this performance will be long-time friend, James Turnbull. James is renowned especially for his work with new writing for oboe. We are very much looking forward to working together with both Thomas and James on this piece.
This piece will be premiered at All Saints, West Dulwich, SE21 8JY on Saturday 27th February 2021. We are planning for 2 performances of the same programme. The concert will also be recorded, and will be streamed later in the week, so that if we are not able at that time to have a physical audience, we will still be able to bring this piece to a wider audience.
